Characterizing growth condition of plants using multispectral sensors installed on an UAV
Presented by Greg Matzke

In this presentation we will discuss drone projects completed in Chemical, Environmental and Biotechnology Department at Mohawk College with the focus on application of multispectral sensors installed on DJI Inspire 1 Pro. Multispectral camera with RGB (Red, Green, Blue), near infrared and red edge bands are very useful in determining the growth conditions of various types of vegetation. We focused our research on wine crops in Niagara on the Lake area, where we completed a number of drone flights, then photogrammetrically processed the images and performed GIS, Geographical Information System analysis to identify vulnerable polygons. As near infrared and red edge bands are not visible to human eye, they can easily detect deficiency of chlorophyll, green pigment in the plants responsible for photosynthesis process and this allows for early intervention.
